What's in a Name
It's official. The guy with the most amazing name in the history ofbaseball has finally reached the Major Leagues.
Are you ready for this?
The guy's actual name is Al Albuquerque. That's right, Alberto J.Albuquerque made his Major League debut last night with the Tigers and heactually pitched very well -- two innings, one hit, one walk. So not onlydoes he have a great name, it seems the guy can pitch too.
He should already be in the Hall of Fame just so Cooperstown can claim tohave a guy in there named Al Albuquerque. In the pantheon of great names, this has to rank near the top of the list. Yogi Berra. Milton Bradley.Coco Crisp. And now, Al Albuquerque.
Not every player can have a name as perfect as Mr. Albuquerque. DarwinBarney is a great example. While it's possible Mr. Barney took a bit ofribbing from his classmates growing up, at least he can now say, “My name isnot the coolest, but at least it gets written on the back of a Cubs jersey(sometimes).”
Shakespeare once wrote, "What's in a name?" In the case of Al Albuquerque;two Als, a pair of Qs (great for Scrabble), and a whole heap of amazingness.
Congratulations Mr. Albuquerque, You win the most-awesome-name-in-the-majorscontest!
