42: Kyle Thompson
Jackie Robinson has left an indelible mark on American sports and society in general. From his many accolades on the field (WS Champ, MVP, ROY, six-time All-star, etc.) to his significant accomplishments off of it (Presidential Medal of Freedom, Congressional Gold Medal, entrepreneurship, etc.), Robinson has helped to mold the society that we currently enjoy.
The fact that the 42 jersey has been retired for every team in the league serves as a symbol of Robinson’s greatness and influence. Without Robinson, many of the game’s greatest players may never have graced a MLB field. Now, to see every player on every team bearing the 42 is an overwhelming sign of the power of the human spirit.
As an American, I am proud that Robinson represents our national pastime and that the essence of his accomplishments will endure for generations to come.
