Lindsay: A Memorable Day
It’s rare for me to be speechless. My friends and family will tell you – I talk a lot. But when Matt Capps came walking into the MLB Fan Cave carrying a Minnesota Twins jersey with my name on the back, I nearly lost it. I have been a Twins fan for as long as I can remember, so getting the opportunity to spend time with my team away from the ballpark was ridiculous.
You may have heard of this guy – Joe Mauer? He’s a pretty cool dude, and luckily for me, he brought a few friends with him from the Twins' pitching staff – Capps, Brian Duensing and Liam Hendriks – to hang out. Joe was busy helping a fan get hooked up with gorgeous Head & Shoulders hair, but once that was over, we all hung out downstairs for a little Minnesota Twins Q & A.
We talked about being dads (both Capps and Duensing have new additions in their families) and Liam and I shared photos of our cats with one another (no lie). We even called my dad, who not so subtly told the guys he was disappointed in their playing while simultaneously pumping up the Dodgers’ latest success. Thanks, dad! It was mortifying, but the guys were good sports.
I had one final request before the guys left the Cave to head out to Yankees Stadium, and it was a big task – send a signal to us during the game. Liam wouldn’t be pitching (he starts Friday in Tampa Bay), but Capps and Duensing would both likely see some time on the mound. So I asked them to Shark! during their outings. The Shark! has become a running joke within the MLB Fan Cave, thanks to Ben Christensen and his stealth photo bombing, so it seemed like an appropriate gesture to pass along to our new friends.
Sure enough, we got the Shark! Brian came in during the sixth and seventh innings and threw up it up a few times, while Matt spent most of his warm-up putting his hand up to his head to signal us back at the Cave. It was awesome.
I couldn’t have asked for a better day. In fact, I still have a cheesy grin plastered on my face. I’m so lucky to be a part of Twins Territory and am truly blessed to have the organization and the players standing behind me throughout this competition. They are the absolute best, and I’m happy I got the opportunity to introduce my fellow Cave Dwellers to my team. Guys, you have an open invitation to come back whenever you want – especially if Capps is buying pizza (yes, that happened)!
